Garden ponds are more beautiful and alive when there are different kinds of fishes swimming in it. Graceful and colorful fishes swimming around can be a treat and you can spend many hours watching them. There are different types of fishes that you can put in your garden pond, however, careful selection is very important because there are fishes that cannot live together and also some that are not ideal pond fishes.

One of the things that you must consider when selecting the best pond fish is the swimming space available. Some pond fish need plenty of space while there are some that can survive even in small spaces. Check leaflets, if available, for information on the approximate size to which your pond fish will grow.

You also have to consider the depth of your pond. If you intend to keep a larger type of pond fish such as koi fishes, the pond has to be at least 90 centimeters deep. For smaller and medium sized fishes, your pond water has to be at least 45 centimeters deep.
